User testing
The wireframes were mocked up in InVision to conduct usability testing. Participants were given the following tasks for the app.
1. Search by category and save an event
Search via the Art + Design category and save the ‘Under the Stars’ event.
— 7/10 participants successfully completed the task
— Some mistook ‘Reserve’ for the ‘Save’ button, so a better differentiation may be needed.
‘I like that there are multiple ways to find events, and I don’t feel stuck.’
2. Add event to schedule
Create a reservation (for April 21 at 8:30pm), and view the event in schedule.
— 9/10 participants completed the task.
— One user commented that they would like to see the location open up in Google Maps once booked.
‘Reserving my place in the app feels familiar, and easy to do.’
3. Schedule conflict resolution
Reserve a place at the Peter Fitzgerald event. Complete this by either deleting a conflicting reservation, or amending a reservation.
— 8/10 of participants completed the task
— 3 participants deleted an event to complete the task
— 5 participants amended an event to complete the task
‘I like that I am able to see the events in my schedule calendar once I made the change.’
4. Purchase festival ticket
Add a festival ticket to your account by purchasing one via user profile.
— 100% of participants completed this task.
— Many participants asked how to reserve places for more than one ticket holder. Due to technical constraints, reservations are limited to the user profile logged in. To get around this, we will introduce a modal pop up when reserving an event as a disclaimer.
‘I wonder how I can reserve places for multiple ticket holders.’
Next steps
The website had a more simplified use scenario, requiring content to spread awareness and give an overview on the festival, as well as functioning as a resource hub. For the website, four key information points were highlighted as important, and were placed under the landing page. These were:
i. Event program
ii. Sponsorship
iii. Membership
iv. FAQs
The quicklinks allowed users to access important information shortly after arriving at the page. As the user scrolls down, more general festival information (such as testimonials, gallery and social feeds) are displayed.
